Allen Iverson – Race Marshal – Medford, Oregon
Sandi Iverson – Race Chute Boss
Sandi and I have been actively involved in the Sled Dog Sprint Racing world since the winter of 1978 racing at Sisters & Diamond Lake. For a few years prior to 1978 we were active spectators of the sport.
It did not take long for us to completely immerse ourselves into the Mushing lifestyle maintaining a Kennel of 25 to 35 dogs to keep our 4 teams on the trail in a competitive manner. Normal winters would see us at races from Falkland, BC South to Markleeville, California. Some years you could find us at the Oregon Coast and East to Heber City, Utah, Leadville and Gore Pass in Colorado. We did not travel as far as some did but we were traveling with our school age kids and needed to get them home for school.
During these years we were also very active with the Southern Oregon Sled Dog Club. We held almost every office there was for years on end. As officials with SOSDC we were active with putting on races at Diamond Lake, Lakeview, Castle Lakes Nordic Center, McCloud and the Sterling Creek Meadow. This involved all phases of race management from the entries, trail layout and site prep, Race Day management and site cleanup on Sunday. Some of the races were ISDRA sanctioned events and we took care of all the reporting to track the championship points.
As the Kids grew older and lifestyles changed maintaining the kennel, training and traveling the race circuit became impossible. So the decision was made to sell out. We still loved the dogs, the people and the sport in general. So it has worked well to help as we can as race officials at various events throughout the West…
We appreciate the opportunity to lend a hand or grab a line or two as needed…
