2013 Haunted Haul – Dog and Owner running race and walk on Lake Siskiyou Trail, Saturday, October 26, 2013 – 9AM Start

Haunted Haul Picture

The Start of the Haunted Haul

Make sure your Halloween Costume is Dodge Dog ready, The Haunted Haul is back for the second year. This year we are allowing dog-less runners and have added a shorter 5K (3.1 miles) race and walk in addition to the ~6 mile race.

All participants will start and finish at the north-most W.A.Barr Road parking area across from the Mount Shasta Resort tennis courts.

All participants will initially head north east

The 5K course (shown below) will follow the main Lake Siskiyou Trail outbound over the Wagon Creek Bridge, then after rounding the  green “tack” shown on the map bellow, which in real life is a cinder block outhouse, the course will loop toward the shoreline and back along the Alternate Lake Siskiyou Trail.Screen Shot 2013-09-30 at 12.36.11 PM On the GPS this route measured 0.01 and 0.02 of a mile longer than 5K.  There will be an aid station with water at the turn around point.

The round the lake 10K course has been changed due to logging south of the delta. Now the course is about 9.2K or 5.72 miles.  The new 9K route will follow the 5K course until the 5K course loops back. The 9K course will then continue to the delta into the disk golf area, up a steep pitch then up to North Shore Road. From there the course will loop back and link up with the 5K return route. The 9K course has more narrow paths and some tricky terrain in the delta area.

9K HaulRoute

COURSE ETIQUETTE:  No vicious dogs or dogs in heat, Slower runners and walkers should stick to the outside of turns for visibility and to let faster returning runners take the faster inside path on turns. Dogs should be reined in close to the side of the trail during a pass. Cars, horses, and falling trees have right of way.
