Chuck Sterni – Tracy, California My Name is Chuck Sterni, I am 41 and a Rookie to the sport of Dog Mushing. I am married to the love of my life and a father to 4 beautiful daughters. I have started building my team of Alaskan Huskies. I have followed and been a big fan of the Great Alaskan race “The Iditarod” for the last several years. With a passion to learn more, I decided to take a clinic with one of my daughters in February of 2010. The clinic, called “Run your own Iditarod”, was put on by Liz Parrish, a 2008 Iditarod finisher, and Barb Schaeffer, a world-renowned and long time dog musher, This great four-day class, given in Klamath Falls, Oregon, immersed me into the understanding of dog mushing. This awesome and incredible experience started my heart pumping and I was hooked. I decided to take another adventure and in March of 2010, I went to Alaska for a week. There I was introduced to long time musher Mike Santos of “Wolf Den Kennels”. Mike and his family were gracious enough to let me stay at there home and run his team of dogs through the Denali National Park. There I was able to experience a little bit of that great Alaska wilderness. After several days of hard knock falls and runs I knew that I was born to be a dog musher. I have always had this long time dream of running the Iditarod and after this past year, I have in fact put that dream into motion. Thanks to the mentorship of Liz Parrish and Barb Schaeffer I have started my training in the quest of running the Iditarod in 2014. With God, my family and friends support, I look forward to this great adventure of a Lifetime, See you at the Finish Line! |

Willie Stephens – Lower Lake, California
This is my first sled dog race. I will be running a team of 6 Siberian Huskies. I have had dogs my whole life, however my serious dog training days began when I started doing Search and Rescue with one of my dogs. About a year and a half ago I had the opportunity to meet Iditarod musher Karen Ramstead. Meeting her sparked an interest in this sport for me. On my journey I have met some really nice and helpful mushers such as Carlos Rivera, Barbara Schaefer, and Iditarod finisher Liz Parrish. I would like to take this time to thank them and the many other nice people that have influenced and helped me along my jouney. I will be running with the Siberain Husky Club of the Redwoods.

Dept of Fish and Game and play violin and viola in a Tango band. I love cross country skiing and I love dog training…what better sport than skijoring!!! I wish I had time for more dogs. I’m trying to round up enough others over here to make up a sprint racing team. Right now my 11 year old son, Myles is our driver as I’m still out in front with the dogs.

SKIJOR CLASS – 2 Dog – 5.1 miles/day

Jack McCain – San Diego, California
Jack is 12 years-old and this will be his first race event as a participant. He accompanied his dad, Doug, to the races back in 2007 and got to watch him struggle to get his two dogs headed down the right path. Now, it’s Jack’s turn. He trains with a Malamute and a shepherd mutt pulling him around the neighborhood on a dog-scooter. The two dogs are an odd mix…one very fast and one very strong. He would have used his Samoyed, but he’s just too lazy. Living in San Diego will only give Jack a couple trips to the snow for practice before the race, but he’s optimistic for a top 4 finish (4 racers entered so far). |
