We all hope you had a great holiday and are looking forward to the Siskiyou Sled Dog Races on January 23 – 24, 2010 near Mt. Shasta, California.
We are thrilled to announce the launch of our new website: www.siskiyousleddograces.com
Information and entry forms are available there. And also links to submit your bios and photos.
We are less than thrilled to announce that due to lack of entrants, we have cancelled the 220 mile distance race. However we still have the 50 mile per day distance stage races to and from Pilgrim Creek each Saturday and Sunday. And of course, we have the Mid-distance, Sprint, and Skijor Races both Saturday and Sunday.
Register early for your races to assure a good start position. The first day start order will be determined by the order of receipt of your entry fee. Of course, the second day start order will be determined by the first day standings (fastest out first unless reverse order is agreed upon at the Sunday morning mushers’ meeting to spice things up).
To assure that everyone is comfortable giving an early commitment to our race, all entry fees will be refunded if the entrant notifies Siskiyou Snow Dog Sporting Association at least one day before the event, or chooses not to race due to rain or insufficient snow coverage. Currently, the trails have good coverage. .Check the weather at the Mt. Shasta Ski Park website, www.skipark.com . See for yourself!
As of Monday January 4 the Mount Shasta Ski Park is reporting:
Snow Depth Base: 27 inches (5500 feet south facing)
Snow Depth Top: 45 inches (6800 feet south facing)
The most brutally honest weather can be found at forecast.weather.gov
Snow pack conditions at various locations around Mount Shasta can be found at shastaavalanche.org/weather/forecasts/current-nwsrec
The 2010 race purse will be determined by entry fees, fundraising, and donations. We currently have over $3000 thanks to a successful annual fund raiser – Dance for the Dogs Contra Dance and Auction and T-Shirt sales. We’re all talking the races up at all sorts of public events, parades and giving demonstrations and interviews on the Radio, TV, Trade Shows, and for Print Media.
Free Kids Rides Day went really well. Pat Campbell, Trevor Mitchell, and Rick Cook gave over 90 kids a ride and our volunteers were on hand selling more t-shirts. We are placing a new order tomorrow to make sure we have plenty of shirts for the race weekend.
All of this for the preservation of, and love of the dogs, the sport… and for you and your dogs to come visit us again, compete and have a great time. So, all of you – Sprint and Distance racers – give us a shout at: info@siskyousleddograces.net. We’d simply like to hear from you. Please feel free to make suggestions and requests.
We hope that everyone’s training is going well and you and your teams are tugging hard for the upcoming excitement and fulfillment of the 2009/10 racing season and we sure hope to hear from you soon.
Sincerely,
Pat Campbell – Director of the Siskiyou Snow Dog Sporting Association
